Symptoms of Impacted Teeth You Need to Be Aware Of

When you have impacted tooth, it means that your new tooth had been blocked during an eruption or when it is pushing through your gums.

This condition usually happens when your wisdom teeth are erupting because there is usually not much room in your mouth to accommodate them as they only start to come out between the ages of 17 and 21.

If you notice that the gums in the back of your mouth are swelling, you have been having a hard time opening your jaw, or when you feel pain when chewing or biting, you should come visit us immediately for a check-up.

Treatment of Impacted Teeth

If you have impacted teeth that are causing you pain and discomfort, you can initially take over-the-counter pain relievers to temporarily ease the pain and help you get back to your usual routine.

Gargling warm water with salt can also soothe the pain in your gums for a while if you don't want to take any medication. You should realize, however, that both options do not offer permanent relief, which is why you should still set an appointment with us, so we can completely address the problem.

Note that the usual treatment for impacted teeth cases is extraction or removal of the teeth. If the symptoms you are experiencing are persistent and the case of impaction is serious, you may need to undergo oral surgery and take antibiotics right after to avoid infections and complications.

Failing to remedy tooth impactions can result to oral problems such as gum disease, tooth decay, infection, as well as overcrowding of teeth. Moreover, there are instances, albeit rare, wherein untreated impacted teeth lead to serious complications such as the development of cysts and tumors.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at San Jose - (408) 479-9449 Gilroy - (408) 479-8788 today.
